The Workshop “Lesson learnt, efficiency vs effectiveness, and synergies” will be held in Capo Granitola, Sicily from 12 to 13 September 2019.
The main goals of the workshop are:
1) to share, discuss and fix the final details of the factsheet of the action for the JPI Oceans to be approved, and
2) define the group of activities to be i) launched, ii) possibly committed by various countries and iii) identified for our own job. In particular, we aim at identifying a) those who will be in charge of managing the IPCC-like series of scientific workshops, b) those who can take the effort in facilitating the process toward MSFD-focused long-term observations and theoretical-experimental testbeds, c) those ho can make the bridge with EC and national authorities for synergies, dissemination etc.
The meeting is structured around a limited number of key-presentations thought to trigger the discussions and time to talk about specific focuses and potential works we feel crucial to design the role of science to implement MSFD. The three key areas (launching of periodic meeting structuring a hub to support scientific approaches to MSFD, improving concepts on augmented observatories to develop knowledge about specific aspects of descriptors of MSFD, designing periodic oceanographic cruises joined by a large group of experts from different countries) and dedicated open discussions will represent the backbone of the meeting and its ultimate scope.
